PROGRAMMING

• (minimum MySQL or SQL with ColdFusion)
• MySQL (data manipulation, query optimization experience)
• Web development using ColdFusion (fine-tuning display logic, ingest & text manipulation)
• Development experience with web services (RSS, XML)
• AJAX (optional)

WRITING

• Ability to work with scientists to put their sites into English (reduce jargon, increase readability); HTML knowledge a plus
• Blog about science done at GSFC
• Update science website (news, new missions & projects, featured images)

EDUCATION

BS in computer Sciene or Physics or any other major, with 3-5 years of relevant experience

Job Description:

• Will be responsible for gathering and analysing requirements, designing application components, developing and testing application components based on business requirements.
• This may be done in a waterfall or Agile or hybrid development process based on the project.
• Creating new or modifying and/or supporting existing software applications.
• Design, code, analyze, configure, unit test, and maintain applications.
• Devises or modifies procedures to solve complex problems considering computer equipment capacity and limitations, operating time, and form of desired results.
• Designs, codes, tests, debugs, and documents those programs.

Specific Qualifications (items are required unless otherwise noted):

• 4+ years experience in either Java/J2EE/ColdFusion web application development.
• Must be strong in either J2EE or ColdFusion and have had some experience in the other and willingness to learn and work in both languages.
• Groovy experience is a plus as it is similar to ColdFusion.
• Property and Casualty experience is preferred.
• Agile experience preferred or basic understanding

DUTIES:

• The contractor will perform various development tasks throughout the development cycle, providing feedback based upon the specific change requirements and business needs, while adhering to the project schedule.
• The contractor will also need to understand and adhere to web development guidelines that have been established at Client site.

Maintenance

• The contractor will assist in maintaining established web applications including, but not limited to content updates, code updates, performance tuning and troubleshooting.

Implementation

• The contractor will oversee moving of the changes to the system successfully based on established web guidelines.  

SKILLS:

• Cold Fusion Developer with 2-4 years experience with creating complex Cold Fusion applications.
• The developer should be knowledgeable of SQL query language and basic database architecting.
• Familiarization with popular Cold Fusion frameworks such as Mach-II and Fusebox 5.5 is a plus.
• The developer should also be experienced with object-oriented programming.
• Java, Flex, xCode (Objective C) and or .Net experience a plus.

EDUCATION:

• College Degree or demonstrated equivalent in skills.

Applicants considered will be given a programming test in basic web application development to assess level of skill.
